One of my team is off sick. Do I have to pay them?

Yes, if they're an employee. Since 6 April 2026, Statutory Sick Pay is paid from the first day they're off sick.

It's £123.25 a week, or 80% of their normal weekly earnings if that's lower, for up to 28 weeks.

Why not just ask ChatGPT?

A general AI chatbot guesses from the internet. HR Henry answers from checked UK law.

General chatbots like ChatGPT or Claude are trained on a huge mix of web pages, old and new, right and wrong. They can sound sure of themselves while missing a law that changed last April. HR Henry still uses AI to understand your question and write in plain English, but it is only allowed to answer from its own knowledge base, built and checked against the official sources.

How it works

Ask it the way you'd ask a colleague.

  1. Ask in your own words

No forms or jargon. Type the question as it comes to you, at any time of day.

  2. Henry checks the facts that matter

If the answer depends on something, like how long they've worked for you, Henry asks one short question first. It already knows your business size, sector and where your staff work.

  3. You get a sourced answer

A plain-English answer with the law or guidance behind it and the date it was last checked. Risky situations come with a clear "get advice" warning.

  • How much holiday does a part-timer get?
  • Can I dismiss someone who's been here 14 months?
  • A new starter wants Fridays off. Do I have to agree?
  • Do I need a written health and safety policy?
  • How do I check someone's right to work?
  • What has to go in a contract?

Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland has its own employment law. Henry answers only where a rule applies UK-wide, such as the minimum wage and right to work checks, and tells you when it can't help.

Henry only answers from what's been checked.

Questions

Before you start.

Is this legal advice?

No. HR Henry gives general information about employment law in Great Britain, taken from a checked knowledge base. For a decision about a specific person, especially a dismissal, discrimination or a claim, speak to an employment solicitor or a qualified HR adviser. Henry tells you when.

Where do the answers come from?

From 208 knowledge-base entries written from the legislation, the Acas Codes of Practice and GOV.UK guidance. Each entry was checked three times. Henry answers only from those entries and shows you which ones it used.

What happens if Henry doesn't know?

It says so, instead of guessing, and suggests where to look. Questions about tax, VAT or company law, for example, are better answered by an accountant.

Do you store my chats?

No. Conversations stay in your browser and are cleared when you start a new chat. We keep your email address and a short business profile (where your staff work, how many people and your sector) so Henry can tailor its answers.

Does it cover Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland?

England, Wales and Scotland, with Scottish differences flagged. Northern Ireland has separate employment law, so Henry answers only where a rule applies across the UK and tells you when it can't help.

What happens after the free trial?

Nothing is charged automatically, because we don't take a card for the trial. If you'd like to carry on, choose a plan. Plans are billed monthly, and you can cancel at any time with 90 days' notice.
